Tropea Overview |
Tropea is a charming, picturesque seside town situated on a chalky cliff overlooking the sparkling blue sea and has some of the best beaches in Italy. Tropea is located on the western most tip of the Italian peninsular close to Capo Vaticano and according to legend was founded by Hercules.
Tropea is also one of the most artistically interesting centres in the province with noble palaces, churches and historic old town. |

Tropea Essentials |
Church of Santa Maria Dell Isola - one of the loveliest and most interesting churches in Tropea, it is built at the foot of the town on a small strip of land jutting into the sea, The terrace of the church has unbelievable views of the waves crashing against the sandstone cliffs.
Beaches - there are three main beaches in Tropea but infact it is one line of soft golden sand backed by sandstone cliffs. Sometimes called the purple coast because of its beautiful inky blue water, the beach has an island with a unused monastery on it and on Passo Cavalieri beach you can rent canoes, jet skies and sail boats.
Old Town - the historic centre of Tropea is wonderful to stroll through and admire the architecture of the old buildings. Highlights include the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, Church of Santa Maria Della Neve and 11th century Norman Cathedral.
Aquapark of Zambrone - situated 10km from Tropea in Zambrone Mare, Aquapark is one of the biggest and most well known waterparks in southern Italy. A great place for young and old, the park includes waterslides, a wave pool, Hawaiian Lagoon, water massages, waterfal, restaurants and special areas for very young children.
Traditional local produce - visit one of the many small shops, especially in the old town, that sell the specialities of the region. The best local produce are the red onions, tomatoes and dried chillies that hang in almost every shop window. Also try the pasta and Arrabiata sauce. |
