| Albenga Overview |
Albenga is located in the province of Liguria and for the visitor is the most interesting historically after Genoa. The Roman occupation can clearly be seen in some of the remains along the Via Julia Augusta.
You can see the remains of the baths, aqueduct, amphitheatre and the many tombs and at the centre of Albenga, is the Piazza San Michele that is the sight of the Cathedral and many other gothic buildings.

Gallinara Island - Just a couple of kms off the coast from Albenga is this protected island. Worth the trip over to see the outstanding Flora and Fauna and ancient monastery.
The Cathedral - This very interesting church is a landmark with its distinct towers. The interior has not changed much since medieval times.
The Baptistery - Beside the Cathedral you will discover this 5th century Roman structure. The museum inside displays some lovely art works.
Peloso-Cepolla Palace - The naval museum is found in this 16th century building and on show are some important finds.
Via Julia Augusta - This is the ancient Roman road, and walking it's length will take one past many ruins. |
